Stainless Pain (2026) explores the dialectic between pain and numbness through bodily gestures, fluid materials and images seen through frosted glass. Hands apply a red, blood-like substance to its surface, while fingers and a needle leave marks, transposing bodily sensation into the optical field. The screen becomes a multisensory membrane, inviting the eye to experience almost tactilely what would normally belong to the skin.
Red embodies the visceral intensity of pain, while achromatic colours evoke withdrawal and numbness. Yet numbness is not simply the opposite of pain: it can emerge from an excess of sensation. Through confessional, disaffected fragments tracing the “dead stars” of love, growth, and survival, knock em dead, a poem by Yves B. Golden, further explores the blurred boundaries between the physical and emotional, and between numbness and pain.
